A crafty kind of day

Most people who know me well know that I love to sew and do crafty things - whether it's an art project with the kids or something just for me.

I've had piles of material sitting on the kitchen counter - for weeks! I've been eyeing my best friend Becca's cloth napkins that her mom made for her - oh for about 2 years now. I love going to eat at her house and picking out which one I want for that day. Hers are all Mary Engelbreit designs and I really love them!

So a few weeks ago I decided to make my own napkins - except I never got around to sewing them - just cutting a few out...

So even though I have all this fabric at my house I was tempted to buy more at Jo-Ann's Fabrics today. I swear I cannot walk out of that store without spending more than $20 on fabric. After I left today I called Becca to say that I needed to find a support group for Fabric Hoarders Anonymous!

However, I think the "new" fabric was enough to get me motivated to do some sewing. My original intention was just to let Maddie pick out fabric for her new babydoll sling - since the one I made earlier this morning wasn't PINK - and she HAD to have pink!

The new napkin fabric was just a bonus. You'll only get to see one of the patterns that I picked out because I haven't sewn the other set yet. I only got a half yard of the fabrics because I didn't want to be overwhelmed. I actually like it in half yard sections though because I can cut it 18"x18" and have enough left over to make two small napkins as well!

In addition to the sling and cloth napkins I also made Maddie another napkin out of the leftover butterfly material from her sling. I also bought one of those easy dresses with the seersucker in the chest and made her a cute little dress with ribbon ties.

I'm inspired now to MAYBE look for an easy dress pattern for her. I used to know how to do all that stuff - I just need to re-learn I guess.

Oh and get a better machine at some point. Mine has decided that it will no longer zig zag stitch - it works for about 20 stitches, goes straight and then goes back to its erratic stitching. VERY frustrating!

Oh well, I can dream :)
