Crisp Morning

It's not yet 8 a.m. and our house is mostly awake. In fact the kids and I are outside in the backyard - playing in the early morning chill as the sun gets higher and higher in the sky.

Pumpkin was loving the outdoors until Azzie taught him how to squeeze through the fence into the neighbor's yard and I banished him to the inside. Azzie ran off in her usual fashion (note to self, get her a collar with ID now that she's become more of an outside cat).

Wyatt is running around the yard finding sticks to beat things with and Maddie is chasing spider webs. Now she's picking up rocks in the flower bed and bringing them to me.

"Here's your favorite," she just said as she brought me a small, white stone. "Mashberry bacomba!"

Mmmmm, that's my favorite for sure.

Excitement has just grown- Maddie found a wiggle worm! I tried to get her to put him in my container of green onions, but she informed me that he lives somewhere else.

"Buggies," was Wyatt's response.

She keeps giggling and dropping the worm when it thrashes around in her hands.

I don't know what it is about fall, but it seems that all my dental issues rear their ugly heads in the months of Oct-Jan. I've known for a while that I needed to get more work done, but the thought of losing more teeth is frightening to me. We don't have the thousands of dollars to get things fixed and with the way the economy is I don't even know if we could get a loan at the moment. The pain is starting to show up every day now and that makes me nervous, because it means that the end is near and I'll have to face the facts sooner than later. On a selfish note - it would be nice to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner as I've been incapacitated orally the past 2!

Azzie is still in the neighbor's yard - chasing squirrels and making racket pouncing on things.


"Moon, Moon!" Wyatt just said to me.

I looked up and indeed saw the moon in the blue sky.

"See it?" he asked.

"Yes, I see it," I told him.

"Joking," was his response. My little comedian :)

My fingers are cold and it's getting harder to type, but Maddie just informed me that she made the worm a bed and he's in the hospital so he can feel better. Like the good nurse she is, she's checking on him frequently and building him a home out of rocks so he'll be warm.

I think it's time for some hot tea - I'm chilled to the bone!

Fall felicitations

I'm sitting here in the living room - feeling a little under the weather - my throat is sore. It's the kind of painful sore throat that drives you insane, too.

All the while my son is driving a helicopter on my foot - making appropriate noises.

Earlier this afternoon when he was still napping I was sitting in here checking my email - the back door was open because the weather is absolutely delicious today.

Into the room pranced our cat, Azzie - the great huntress. She carried a blue-tailed skink in her mouth. I tried to catch it when she dropped it and really should have let her catch it again. 

Needless to say the little lizard escaped and quickly ran under the couch - where he's still hiding.

So the joke will be on some poor unsuspecting person - when it decides to venture out and climb up someone's leg.

There's something about the cooler weather that motivates me - physically and emotionally. I love the fall - and can't wait for the holiday season to gear up.

We're making plans for a small, winter garden. I've purchased broccoli, kale and carrot seeds. I went out to my garden plot and turned most of the dirt over - getting it ready for the compost I've been working so hard on this year. I also added some organic plant food to encourage our yummy veggies to grow!

I'm so ready for the cooler weather to be here to stay - for the pumpkins to be here at the pumpkin patch - holiday craft bazaars, hot apple cider.

I'm full of anticipation!
