Daddy's Leaving on a trip

Despite the protests when Mike gets home - maddie really does love her daddy. She asks about him off and on throughout the day - often bursting into tears because she doesn't want him to be at work.

It always amazes me how one second she's crying about him not being home and once he walks in the door she's running away screaming - No daddy, don't hug me! Leave me alone.

And then the tickling commences and she remembers how much fun Daddy is to have around.

Wyatt, however, is every bit a daddy's boy. He'll take his daddy all the time - except when he's sleepy and mommy is an option.

Mike left the house around 3 a.m. this morning - he had a fishing trip booked and the plan was to meet at the boat at 3:30 a.m. and head out to find some blue water. He got back home tonight close to 9 p.m. Bone tired, but happy with his day.

About 30 minutes before he got home I was getting Wyatt ready for bed and my little guy starts saying "daddy, daddy, daddy" over and over. It was like he suddenly realized that Daddy wasn't home yet. We called Mike's cell phone and he didn't answer so Wyatt left a message on his voicemail. I don't think he's listened to it yet, but it will be one he won't erase.

A few minutes later Mike called back and Wyatt got to talk to him on the phone. Other than "Daddy," I have no clue what Wyatt was telling him, but it was quite a lot of stuff he was saying.

One of the hardest parts of summertime is when Mike leaves for days at a time to go fishing with clients. It means 3,5,6 or more days on my own with the kids and they miss their daddy a lot during that time.

He's leaving on Saturday for up to a week. They're going tuna fishing off the Louisiana coast. I haven't told Maddie yet because I don't want her to obsess about him leaving.

He'll be on the water for Father's Day and while he said it doesn't bother him we will miss him.

Thankfully the week will pass by quickly because it falls on the same week as Vacation Bible School.

Hurry home honey.
