Just like Daddy

Mike is home safe and sound. He was awake long enough to eat dinner and then proclaimed that he couldn't keep his eyes open any longer and has been asleep since about 7 p.m.

Tonight as we're getting ready for bed - Maddie comes into the bathroom as I'm getting Wyatt out of the tub and says - I want to sleep naked tonight - I want to be just like Daddy.

I had to laugh. It cracked me up!

I insisted that she keep her panties on - and her "nakedness" lasted a whole - oh- 10 minutes until she proclaimed that she was so cold. At that point she wanted "warm" jammies instead of her usual nightgown.

Now she's a person who gets really hot when she's asleep - so warm jammies are best reserved for cold nights. We won't be seeing any cold nights until January probably.

So after some discussion she agreed to warm jammie pants and a tank top -

Missing Daddy

Dear Daddy,

You've been gone for 4 days now and we're really starting to miss you around here. I've really been missing you and asking for you a lot today. Wyatt just started yelling "MIKE" last night - out of the blue. He was a little bothered that you never answered.

Mommy says the grass is getting really tall with all this rain we've had - and it will be nice for you to come mow it when you get home so she can see the van in the driveway. You may not be able to see where to park your truck because the grass is so high now!

We have enjoyed sleeping on your side of the bed - Wyatt and I can both sleep on your side and Mommy still has lots of room. She keeps putting us back in our beds, though - saying she needs space. I think she's just being greedy though.

Mommy says it's a few more days before you get to come home, but we want you to come back now. Mommy keeps saying not today and we just don't understand.

I can't wait to show you my new princess computer! It came in the mail today from Grandmomma - she's the coolest! Wyatt got some funny looking bug toy with lots of shapes. I don't like bugs very much.

We hope you're having fun fishing with the mixed nuts guys - and that you bring home lots of fish!

Love you.

Maddie, Wyatt and Mommy, too.

Watering my Garden

I really must get someone to fix our lawn pump so I can use the well water to nourish my vegetable and flower gardens.

However until that happens (ahem... DAD) I am forced to use city water and sprinklers to keep things from dying in our infernal heat.

There are some added perks for maddie and wyatt, though - I can accomplish two things at once: Water my gardens and let the kids cool off and have fun running in the sprinkler.

My water bill, however is suffering. It was over $100 this past month and usually we're pretty steady at $85.

But that slight - ok LARGE - increase is worth it to see the joy and fun they have playing in the sprinkler. I used to love to play in them as a child - it's sad how quickly you forget.

I'm really enjoying this age right now. It's finally starting to work - this having two babies so close together. They play so nicely together. They had a blast in the sprinkler.

Even right now as I'm writing this they're playing in the living room - no doubt dumping toys and trashing the place, but giving me a few moments to write about how much I love them!

A few minutes ago Wyatt ran into the kitchen and Maddie came after him, leading him back out to the living room saying, "Wyatt mommy is having some quiet time, let's go back to the living room and play."

So before the room gets totally destroyed I'll finish up with some more sprinkler pictures and then go play "shopping" with them.

TA-DA!

For his first birthday in January, Wyatt received a little trike from his Grandmomma Paula. It was an instant hit and he's still in love with it. It's simple - no pedals. There's a little piece in the middle with sparkles and a ribbon that moves them around. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to turn it on, but Wyatt somehow discovered that if he grabbed the handle of the trike and tipped the bike slightly on its side that the confetti thing would turn on. He also realized if he turned the trike on its side the motor on the confetti thing would run constantly (it makes a noise, so thankfully I can hear it and rescue it (myself).

Bit by bit I'm being indoctrinated into the world of boys. After having a prim little princess (who will of course get muddy and sandy) I'm learning about trucks and all those fun boy things.

Mostly I'm learning about climbing.

And I've learned that wyatt is a very good climber. It's not uncommon to walk into the kitchen and find that he's pulled the kitchen chairs away from the table so he can use them to climb onto the table. He's not happy just SITTING on the table, though - he has to stand up on it.

Anything with a flat surface is fair game - or sometimes not even a flat surface works, too.

He likes to draw attention to himself once he's scaled the latest mountain - kitchen counter, toilet seat, train table.

His latest obsession, though is Evil Knievelish. Using his little trike as a platform, he grabs the handlebars and stands up on the seat proclaiming, "TA DA!"

Photobucket

Often I will hear these words and smile because I know exactly what to expect when I walk into the room.

If I don't respond to his "TA DA" he will continue to say it over and over until I appear in the room to congratulate him on his accomplishment.

Play by Play Pictures (and thanks for the new jammies Grandmomma!) I think the shirt that says "I'm Awesome" fits the pictures perfectly.

Of course, being the genius that he is - Wyatt has also discovered that the trike is useful for other ventures like climbing onto the couch so he can run on it.

Unfortunately I caught him trying to climb over the back of the couch onto our desk... He grabbed the wireless keyboard to Mike's computer, dragged it over the back of the couch onto the couch and sat down with it on his lap and started typing.

Maybe he's going to start blogging soon, too!

Daddy's Leaving on a trip

Despite the protests when Mike gets home - maddie really does love her daddy. She asks about him off and on throughout the day - often bursting into tears because she doesn't want him to be at work.

It always amazes me how one second she's crying about him not being home and once he walks in the door she's running away screaming - No daddy, don't hug me! Leave me alone.

And then the tickling commences and she remembers how much fun Daddy is to have around.

Wyatt, however, is every bit a daddy's boy. He'll take his daddy all the time - except when he's sleepy and mommy is an option.

Mike left the house around 3 a.m. this morning - he had a fishing trip booked and the plan was to meet at the boat at 3:30 a.m. and head out to find some blue water. He got back home tonight close to 9 p.m. Bone tired, but happy with his day.

About 30 minutes before he got home I was getting Wyatt ready for bed and my little guy starts saying "daddy, daddy, daddy" over and over. It was like he suddenly realized that Daddy wasn't home yet. We called Mike's cell phone and he didn't answer so Wyatt left a message on his voicemail. I don't think he's listened to it yet, but it will be one he won't erase.

A few minutes later Mike called back and Wyatt got to talk to him on the phone. Other than "Daddy," I have no clue what Wyatt was telling him, but it was quite a lot of stuff he was saying.

One of the hardest parts of summertime is when Mike leaves for days at a time to go fishing with clients. It means 3,5,6 or more days on my own with the kids and they miss their daddy a lot during that time.

He's leaving on Saturday for up to a week. They're going tuna fishing off the Louisiana coast. I haven't told Maddie yet because I don't want her to obsess about him leaving.

He'll be on the water for Father's Day and while he said it doesn't bother him we will miss him.

Thankfully the week will pass by quickly because it falls on the same week as Vacation Bible School.

Hurry home honey.

Mother-daughter moments

I love having a little girl. Madeleine is a sweet, smart - beautiful young lady. There are moments when I'm pulling out my hair between tantrums, or rather during them - but at the end of the day she's still my sweet little girlie who loves to cuddle and snuggle and sit on mommy's lap.

Last fall I "won" two gift certificates for photography from a local artist. After 4 failed attempts to do pictures - due to bad weather - we finally got a nice day in April. We went out to Eden Gardens, which is a local state park - botanical garden.

Maddie wore the bright blue dress that her grandmomma Paula bought her last year - and looked and acted every bit the princess. With flowers in her hair and in her hands she pranced, twirled and posed throughout the park.

I hadn't intended to be in the pictures at all, but Sue Carol Knight, the photographer - suggested I be in the pictures too.

I'm so glad that she did! Always the one behind the camera, I have few pictures of myself with my kids - unless it's a self portrait (I've gotten pretty good actually).

So here is Miss Madeleine at the beginning of the shoot - she was fresh and cooperative

and then a beautiful shot of her and me in front of the huge door

We spent some time at the reflecting pond and then explored the lilies

My favorite shots are the ones of us walking away

This one is pretty much my absolute favorite - it reminds me of a famous photograph or painting. I love the way she's turned around looking straight at the camera

And since the first picture showed her so refreshed and cooperative, one must appreciate the classic Maddie face we saw once it was time to leave the rose garden:

Here we are in our new home

I've finally decided to split my blogs. Due to some complicated circumstances I had no choice but to lock my Livejournal blog - meaning unless you've signed up for an account and been approved by moi - no one can read it. I love writing about Maddie and Wyatt and our family, but there are other things I write about as well. For now I will continue using my Livejournal account to write about more "touchy" subjects and will use this blog to write exclusively about family stuff - meaning our little family of four.

I hope you will enjoy keep up with us as we're smack dab in the middle of the toddler years! Lots of fun stuff going on in our lives these days!
